Hyderabad: The Election Commission has begun publishing the post SIR rolls in West Bengal in phases. On Saturday, February 28, officials put up hard copies of the list in some districts, including Bankura. However, the list was not yet available online on the designated EC portals and mobile app.
The phased release follows the Special Intensive Revision process conducted across the state. Meanwhile, officials have not clarified the total number of deletions from the draft rolls. However, EC sources said that names of over 1.35 lakh voters may have been deleted from Bankura district.
Post SIR Rolls Classify 7.08 Crore Electors
The publication of the post SIR rolls will classify 7.08 crore electors as approved, deleted or under adjudication. The last category refers to voters whose names are under scrutiny by judicial officers. Their inclusion or deletion will be decided in subsequent supplementary lists.
Earlier, the draft rolls published on December 16 showed a drop in the electorate. The number fell from 7.66 crore to 7.08 crore. Enumeration forms were distributed based on names in the electoral rolls till August 2025. More than 58 lakh names were deleted due to death, migration, duplication or untraceability.
SIR Process Took 116 Days Amid Challenges
The SIR process in West Bengal began on November 4 last year. Officials distributed enumeration forms among voters across the state. The Election Commission took 116 days to provisionally complete the exercise and publish the final but incomplete list.
Later, the second phase covered hearings for 1.67 crore electors. Among them, 1.36 crore were flagged for logical discrepancies and 31 lakh lacked mapping. Around 60 lakh voters remain under adjudication due to logical discrepancies in their forms.
The Special Intensive Revision marks the first statewide exercise since 2002. The Election Commission conceived it as a statutory clean up ahead of a major election. Therefore, the phased release of the post SIR rolls now forms a key step in the ongoing electoral revision process in West Bengal.
