HPV Vaccination Program Launched Nationwide

Hyderabad: The HPV Vaccination Program was launched across the country on Saturday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the nationwide drive in Ajmer, Rajasthan. The Centre introduced the program to prevent cervical cancer and other preventable cancers in women.

The launch marks a major public health step. Officials said the program aims to protect young girls from high risk strains of the Human Papillomavirus. Therefore, the government will provide the vaccine free of cost at health centers.

HPV Vaccination Program targets cervical cancer prevention

The HPV Vaccination Program focuses on girls aged 14 years. As part of the initiative, the vaccine ‘Gardasil’ will be administered free of cost at designated health centers. The Centre confirmed that the vaccine protects against HPV types 16 and 18. These strains are known to cause cervical cancer.

Meanwhile, the vaccine also offers protection against HPV types 6 and 11. These types are linked to other preventable conditions. Therefore, health authorities believe the program will reduce future health risks among women.

Free Gardasil vaccine for 14 year old girls

The government stated that the vaccine will be given free to 14 year old girls. This move ensures wider access. Moreover, it removes financial barriers for families. The program will run at health centers across the country.
