Social media rumours on petrol price hike

The rumours claimed that crude oil shipments from Arab countries to India had stopped due to the Iran America Israel war. As a result, posts alleged that petrol bunks would shut down in the coming days and petrol prices would surge to Rs 500 per litre. Soon after, many young people believed the claims and gathered at fuel stations to fill full tanks. A video related to the incident has gone viral. It shows large crowds of youth standing in queues with bikes and bottles to buy petrol.

However, reports of a petrol price hike have been dismissed as completely false. Amid tensions between Iran and the United States, some individuals allegedly spread misinformation by linking global crude oil trends to local fuel shortages. Consequently, sudden crowds at petrol bunks caused heavy rush and inconvenience to regular motorists. Several social media users also expressed concern over the unnecessary panic.

Officials urge public not to believe false news

Meanwhile, government sources and official oil companies have not issued any statement about stopping petrol supply. Therefore, authorities have urged people not to believe unverified claims circulating on social media. They have advised citizens to rely only on official news channels for accurate information.
