- Assembly uproar over Padi Kaushik Reddy behaviour
- Ethics Committee to review MLA membership issue
Hyderabad, March 29: A major controversy has erupted over the conduct of Padi Kaushik Reddy in the Assembly, with the government moving to refer the matter to the Ethics Committee. The development follows strong objections from Congress MLAs over his alleged behaviour during proceedings.
The issue arose during a discussion on mining irregularities in the Assembly. During the debate, Kadiyam Srihari spoke against the previous BRS government and alleged that its leaders had encroached on lands. However, as he was speaking, Padi Kaushik Reddy reportedly interrupted him and shouted, “Which party are you in?”
Meanwhile, Congress MLAs alleged that Kaushik Reddy behaved inappropriately towards Kadiyam Srihari, who had won from BRS and later joined Congress. They further claimed that he threatened Srihari and made gestures indicating that he would shoot him with a gun. Therefore, the incident triggered protests and strong reactions inside the Assembly.
In response, ministers and MLAs from the ruling side demanded strict action. Government Whip Adi Srinivas called for Kaushik Reddy’s dismissal as an MLA. He also urged authorities to review the video footage of the incident and take appropriate action based on findings.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy also condemned the alleged behaviour. Along with ministers, he supported calls for action and stressed the need for accountability. As a result, the Speaker referred the matter to the Ethics Committee for further examination.
The Committee has been asked to review the case and recommend action if Kaushik Reddy is found guilty. Meanwhile, the government is proceeding cautiously in handling the issue. The decision reflects concerns over past cases related to suspension and membership cancellation.
Earlier, during the previous BRS government, the Speaker had revoked the membership of Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Sampath Kumar over misconduct allegations. However, both leaders later approached the High Court, which ruled that the cancellation of their memberships was invalid.
Therefore, the current government appears careful in its approach. There is ongoing discussion about whether similar action will be taken in this case. Meanwhile, there are indications that Kaushik Reddy may be kept away from Assembly proceedings for some time instead of immediate suspension.
