Udumula said artificial intelligence is reshaping journalism, investigative reporting, verification, distribution and newsroom workflows. He said AI can help improve quality, strengthen discovery, speed up repetitive work and support better distribution, but should not replace reporting, verification or editorial judgment.

Udumula said AI can assist investigative journalism in analysing large datasets, reviewing documents, spotting patterns, aiding transcription and translation, and supporting verification work. He also flagged the risks of hallucination, misinformation, fake quotes, bias and overconfidence, and stressed the need for human oversight.

Udumula said responsible use of AI in journalism must include clarity in prompting, ethical safeguards, transparency, accountability and caution against deepfakes. He said AI should remain a support tool in the hands of journalists rather than become a substitute for editorial judgment.
