Tel Aviv/Internet/Hyderabad, Mar 31 (Maxim News): The Israeli Parliament has enacted a new law to impose the death penalty on Palestinians who commit terror attacks. The law was passed after nearly twelve hours of debate. According to this law, the courts there will have the power to impose the death penalty on all those who commit terror attacks. The sentence must be carried out within 90 days of the sentence. In some special circumstances, the court will sentence the accused to life imprisonment.
Israeli officials announced that the law was enacted with the clear aim of ending terrorism. They said that the decision was taken in response to the terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas on an area in Israel on October 7, 2023. However, they said that the law does not apply to the suspects who committed those attacks. Although Israeli citizens and residents are exempted from this law, officials revealed that the law also applies to Israelis who cause the death of a person through terrorist activities, according to a special provision.
The United States welcomed the decision of the Israeli parliament. It stated that the Israeli parliament has the right to introduce its own laws. Meanwhile, after a long session, the Israeli parliament approved the annual budget. With this, there is no possibility of early elections in that country. Elections are usually held in Israel before the end of the government’s term. The four-year term of the Netanyahu government will end in a few months. Elections are to be held by the end of October.
