- Energy, agriculture, and supplies amid West Asia war concerns
Hyderabad, April 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed authorities to ensure that the ongoing war in West Asia does not affect people in India. He asked ministers and officials to take precautions at all levels.
The Cabinet Committee on Security met under his chairmanship on Wednesday. The panel reviewed steps taken by Union Government ministries and departments in response to the war. It also discussed future actions in key sectors such as energy, agriculture, civil aviation, and supplies.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet Secretary briefed the committee about energy supplies. He said LPG and LNG supply must continue without disruption. He also stressed the need to import these fuels from multiple countries instead of relying on a few sources. Therefore, the government aims to secure stable supply chains.
The Prime Minister also focused on agriculture. He directed officials to ensure there is no shortage of fertilizers for farmers during the Kharif and Rabi seasons. He said authorities must act early to avoid supply issues.
However, he also raised concern over misinformation. He said false propaganda and rumors should not spread. Instead, accurate information must reach the public regularly. He further stressed that prices of essential commodities should remain stable. He asked authorities to take strict steps against price rise and black marketing. He suggested imposing a steel tax on those involved in such practices and advised states to act firmly.
Later, the committee reviewed maritime safety. It examined measures to ensure Indian ships pass safely through the Strait of Hormuz. This is important to maintain uninterrupted imports.
The Prime Minister’s Office issued a statement outlining these directions. The government said it will continue to monitor the situation closely and take necessary steps.
