Hyderabad, Mar 9 (Maxim News): The HYDRAA Prajavani programme received 32 complaints on Monday, many related to land encroachments and protection of lakes. Citizens raised concerns about illegal occupations of public spaces, including graveyards, parks and government lands.
Several residents complained that encroachers are even occupying cemetery lands and constructing houses. They said people normally hesitate to even approach such places, yet some individuals are illegally taking over those areas.
Citizens also submitted requests seeking protection and development of lakes and drainage channels. They said the lakes developed by HYDRA look impressive and asked authorities to carry out similar development works in their areas.
Many residents requested authorities to first remove sewage and sludge from lakes before starting development works. They also asked officials to restore the traditional chain of lakes system to reduce flood risks in the city.
Officials said HYDRA Additional Director Varla Papayya reviewed all complaints. He then assigned the issues to the concerned departments for action.
One complaint came from the Walkers Association at Krishnakant Park located between Yusufguda and Madhura Nagar. The association requested authorities to develop the lake inside the park. They said the lake was partly filled earlier during park development. If the water body is expanded again, it could help control flooding in the area.
Residents also said the existing lake lacks proper maintenance and now emits foul smell. They requested authorities to ensure clean water flows into the lake to improve groundwater levels. They also asked officials to begin development works during the current summer.
Another complaint came from residents of Central Park Phase 1 in Serilingampally. They alleged that some individuals attempted to encroach on Park No. 4 land. According to residents, the encroachers demolished part of the compound wall built 20 years ago and tried to enter the park area.
In Rajendranagar mandal of Rangareddy district, residents of TNGO’s Colony reported encroachment on government land near plot number 311. They said around 300 square yards of government land has been illegally occupied and requested authorities to restore it.
Meanwhile, a complaint from Shamshabad reported encroachment attempts on burial land inside the MB Mission compound. Representatives of the MB Church and cemetery management committee said the land has belonged to the church for over a century and is listed as a prohibited property. They alleged that some individuals altered survey records and obtained illegal registrations.
Officials said they will examine all complaints and take appropriate action. (Maxim News)
