Hyderabad Reporters | Hyderabad, April 6 (Maxim News): Three web reporters were arrested by Hyderabad Police for allegedly posing as vigilance officers and extorting a gas delivery worker in Film Nagar.
The incident occurred near MRC Common. The accused allegedly introduced themselves as media reporters and accused the delivery worker of black marketing gas cylinders.
Police said they threatened to complain to his employer. They allegedly demanded Rs 2 lakh. As a result, the frightened worker handed over the cash collected during deliveries.
The case came to light after the victim informed his employer. Later, a complaint was filed with Film Nagar Police. Three Web Reporters Arrested in Extortion Case
Using CCTV footage, police identified and arrested the accused. They were Mohammed Manzoor Hassan, a News9 web reporter from Suncity, Mohd Tousfeeq, a BTS News web reporter from Musheerabad, and Mohammed Taj, a driver from Musheerabad.
Police recovered Rs 23,000 from the accused. During questioning, they said the remaining amount was with another associate who is absconding.
Police teams are searching for the fourth suspect. They are also trying to recover the remaining money.
