CJI Directs High Courts To Hold Virtual Hearings

Hyderabad, May 18: Suryakant has instructed Chief Justices of all state High Courts to adopt virtual hearing practices similar to those followed in the Supreme Court of India.

The Chief Justice suggested that hearings through video conference should be conducted on Mondays and Fridays to improve accessibility and court functioning.

The direction came after all benches of the Supreme Court conducted proceedings through virtual mode on Monday without major issues.

Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi informed the court that virtual hearings were conducted smoothly and requested that similar arrangements be implemented in High Courts across the country.

Responding to the suggestion, the Chief Justice stated that instructions had already been issued to Chief Justices of various High Courts last Friday regarding the adoption of virtual hearing systems.

The move is expected to strengthen hybrid court functioning and improve convenience for advocates and litigants in different states.

Virtual hearings had gained wide acceptance during the Covid 19 period and several courts continue to use hybrid systems for selected cases and proceedings.
