YS Jagan Alleges Amaravati Mega Scam, Targets Chandrababu Naidu

Amaravati / Hyderabad, May 21 (Maxim News): Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the N. Chandrababu Naidu government, alleging that large scale corruption and financial irregularities were taking place in the name of Amaravati capital construction works.

Addressing a press conference at the YSR Congress Party central office in Tadepalli, the former Chief Minister claimed that the State government was treating Amaravati as an “ATM for corruption” while burdening people with massive debt.

Jagan said temporary Assembly, High Court and Secretariat buildings constructed earlier at a cost of nearly Rs 1,200 crore were already available. Despite this, the government was now planning fresh permanent buildings only to facilitate scams, he alleged.

According to him, the same contractors were once again receiving tenders for the new construction works. He alleged that the estimated expenditure for five major buildings itself had shocked the public.

Jagan claimed that the government spent nearly Rs 401 crore merely on preparing building designs. He further alleged that the estimated cost of the five proposed buildings was shown at Rs 10,665 crore.

Jagan Questions Massive Amaravati Construction Costs

The YSRCP chief said that earlier construction estimates in Amaravati were below Rs 5,000 per square foot. However, he alleged that the present government was now showing civil construction costs at Rs 20,427 per square foot.

Including furniture and interiors, the total expenditure would cross Rs 30,000 per square foot, he claimed.

Jagan said even luxury five star standard buildings would not cost this much. He compared the projects with the Telangana Secretariat built during the tenure of former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao for nearly Rs 615 crore.

He questioned why the Andhra Pradesh government was planning such expensive projects despite severe financial pressure on the State.

The former Chief Minister alleged that loans worth Rs 47,387 crore had already been raised for Amaravati development. He further claimed that another Rs 9,200 crore from the State exchequer was now being spent unnecessarily.

Jagan said the Amaravati project was financially impractical and alleged that roads, drainage systems and other infrastructure alone would require nearly Rs 2 lakh crore in the future.

He stated that the YSRCP had proposed “Mavigan” as an alternative capital model considering long term sustainability and development needs. According to him, the proposal had received support from people across the State.

Jagan alleged that Chandrababu Naidu and his ministers were reacting aggressively whenever the Mavigan proposal was mentioned because they could not politically tolerate the alternative vision.

The former Chief Minister also accused the TDP government of suppressing opposition voices through police cases and political pressure. He alleged that Andhra Pradesh was being turned into “Jungle Raj” under the present administration.

Mocking the government’s performance, Jagan remarked that the only progress visible during the last two years was “Chandrababu Surety – Mosam Guarantee.”

Jagan Responds To TDP Allegations On Political Violence

Responding strongly to criticism from Telugu Desam Party leaders regarding political violence, Jagan said his own family had suffered repeated tragedies.

He said three members of his family became victims of political violence over the years. Jagan referred to the murder of his grandfather Y. S. Raja Reddy and also mentioned the deaths linked to former Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy and former minister Y. S. Vivekananda Reddy.

Jagan alleged that Chandrababu Naidu had earlier threatened YSR in the Assembly before his death. He further claimed that the murder of Vivekananda Reddy also took place during the TDP regime.

The YSRCP chief also referred to the murder of Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga and alleged that senior leader Harirama Jogaiah had publicly accused Chandrababu Naidu of involvement in the political conspiracy surrounding the incident.

He further criticised Chandrababu Naidu over the removal of N. T. Rama Rao from power, alleging that betrayal politics had been part of the TDP leadership’s history.

Jagan asserted that people clearly knew which party encouraged “axe politics, betrayal politics and conspiracy politics” in Andhra Pradesh. (Maxim News)
