Officials said the project aims to improve visitor facilities and promote tourism in Medak district. The restoration proposal was presented to the district administration by Heritage Department officials on Thursday.

Medak Fort, built during the Kakatiya period and later strengthened by the Qutb Shahi rulers, is one of Telangana’s important heritage monuments. The hill fort is known for its ancient gateways, cannons and panoramic views of Medak town.

Tourism Facilities Planned At Medak Fort

Heritage Department officials said the first phase of the project will focus on restoration and conservation works. Basic amenities including washrooms, benches, drinking water and information boards on the fort’s history will also be provided.

During the second phase, officials plan to build a ropeway to the fort along with a museum or interpretation centre to improve the tourist experience.

The Heritage Department is also preparing a proposal seeking financial assistance from the Union Tourism Ministry. Officials said both phases may be taken up simultaneously if central funds are approved.

Collector Prathima Singh said the administration plans to develop a tourism circuit connecting Pocharam Dam, Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary, Medak Fort, Medak Cathedral, the Jain Temple in Kulcharam and Sri Vanadurga Bhavani Temple.

Officials added that transport connectivity and visitor facilities would also be improved across the proposed tourism circuit.
