Washington, May 23: US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard resigned from her post on Friday, citing her husband’s serious health condition.
Gabbard announced that her resignation will take effect from June 30. In her resignation letter to US President Donald Trump, she said her husband, Abraham, was recently diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer.
She said he would face major medical challenges in the coming months and added that she wanted to step away from public service to support him during treatment.

Gabbard thanked President Trump for giving her the opportunity to lead the Office of the Director of National Intelligence over the last one and a half years.
She said her office made significant progress in improving transparency and restoring integrity within the intelligence community. However, she added that more work still remains.
Gabbard also assured that she would support a smooth transition process before officially leaving office.
In her statement, she praised her husband for supporting her during military deployments, political campaigns and public service assignments.
“I cannot in good conscience ask him to face this fight alone,” she said while explaining her decision to resign.
President Trump reacted to the announcement on Truth Social and praised Gabbard for her service. He said Principal Deputy Director Aaron Lukas would serve as Acting Director of National Intelligence after her resignation takes effect. Trump also expressed confidence that Abraham Gabbard would recover from his illness.
