Delhi, May 24: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducted the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026 across the country on Sunday amid elaborate security arrangements and strict monitoring at examination centres.
According to official information, a total of 8,19,372 candidates registered for the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2026 for nearly 933 vacancies in various central services.
The preliminary examination was conducted in two sessions in offline OMR format. General Studies Paper I began at 9:30 am, while the Civil Services Aptitude Test Paper II was scheduled for the afternoon session.
Candidates were instructed to carry printed e admit cards along with valid photo identity proof to gain entry into examination centres.
Tight Security Arrangements At Exam Centres
Authorities deployed extensive security measures at centres across the country to ensure smooth and transparent conduct of the examination.
Security arrangements included CCTV surveillance, biometric verification, retina scanning, jammers, and intensive frisking of candidates before entry into examination halls.
At Kendriya Vidyalaya in New Delhi’s Pushp Vihar area, candidates arrived early and expressed confidence ahead of the examination.
One aspirant said he felt slightly nervous but remained hopeful after months of preparation. Another candidate attempting the examination for the third time said preparation for UPSC is a continuous process without any fixed limit.
In Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj, candidates reached centres well before reporting time as police and officials maintained strict security and checking procedures.
Candidates there appreciated the arrangements and expressed optimism about their performance in the examination.
Meanwhile, in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior, the UPSC examination was conducted at 21 centres with around 6,652 candidates appearing for the test.
Officials stated that special route in charges were appointed to safely transport confidential question papers to all examination centres.
SDM and UPSC Examination Centre In charge Vinod Singh said authorities made elaborate arrangements to ensure the examination concluded peacefully and without disruption.
