Bakrid Dates Differ Across India
While Jammu and Kashmir celebrated Eid-ul-Adha on May 27, most other states in India, including Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, are observing the festival on May 28 following regional moon sighting announcements.
The revised moon sighting led several institutions and governments to update holiday schedules.
The Telangana government recently shifted the official Bakrid holiday to May 28 after recommendations from religious bodies and the Wakf Board.
The festival commemorates the devotion and sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim and is considered one of the most important festivals in Islam.
Families traditionally mark the occasion through prayers, charity, sacrifice and community gatherings.
