Nellore, May 27 (Maxim News) : Nara Lokesh announced that the Telugu Desam Party will allot 33 percent seats to women in the 2029 elections.
He made the announcement during Mahanadu 2026 after taking charge as the party’s Working President.
Lokesh said the party would implement political reservations for women even if Parliament does not pass the Women’s Reservation Bill. He stated that women deserve greater representation and respect in politics. Moreover, he said the decision would mark the beginning of a new chapter in Andhra Pradesh political history.
Earlier in the day, Lokesh hinted at a major announcement through a post on X. As a result, political circles closely watched his speech at Mahanadu 2026. During his address, he confirmed that the party would give more opportunities and encouragement to women leaders in the coming years.

Lokesh also spoke about the struggles faced by TDP workers between 2019 and 2024. He said the party cadre suffered mentally and physically during the previous government’s tenure. Furthermore, he alleged that 23 cases were filed against him during that period.
However, he said the party never stepped back from its commitments. “We said we would not break our word or bend,” he stated. He added that the alliance government is now moving ahead rapidly with development and welfare programs.
At the same time, Lokesh challenged Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for a public debate on governance, welfare, and development. He asked Jagan to decide the date and time for the discussion. Moreover, he claimed the present government performed better than the previous administration in both welfare and development.
Lokesh defended the hybrid format of Mahanaadu and said critics mocked the idea initially. He added that the event followed the vision suggested by Narendra Modi. He said Mahanaadu remained a grand festival whether conducted online or offline.
He also said every TDP worker is equal to the party leadership. Furthermore, he praised N. T. Rama Rao for recognising women’s strength early in politics and for protecting Telugu self respect.
Lokesh praised N. Chandrababu Naidu and said Telugu people across the world identify him with development. He remarked that Chandrababu still works with the energy of a young leader and moves at “Z speed.”
Referring to the recent elections, Lokesh said those who once raised the slogan “Why Not 175” ultimately received “Team 11” from voters. He claimed the alliance achieved a clean sweep in eight united districts.
He also launched sharp attacks on YSRCP during his speech. Lokesh said TDP stood for technology, investment, and development, while the opposition represented faction politics. He added that investors are now lining up to enter Andhra Pradesh because of Chandrababu Naidu’s leadership and TDP’s ideology.
Quoting Chandrababu, Lokesh concluded by saying, “Both are not same,” while comparing the governance models of TDP and YSRCP. (Maxim News)
