Bhopal/Hyderabad, June 11 (Maxim News): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won three Rajya Sabha seats from Madhya Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha elections-2026. The Lotus Party has won three Rajya Sabha seats from Madhya Pradesh. The Election Commission of India has announced that BJP candidates Rajneesh Agarwal, Tarun Chugh and Mahesh Kewat have been elected unanimously. Election officials handed over certificates to the winning candidates at the Madhya Pradesh Assembly premises. Today (June 11) is the last day for candidates to withdraw their nominations. However, the elections were unanimous as only three candidates were in the fray. This key development took place after the nomination of Congress candidate Meenakshi Natarajan was rejected.
Telangana Congress affairs in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan filed her nomination for Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh. However, BJP candidate Mahesh Kewat alleged that a criminal case was registered against Natarajan in Telangana and that she did not disclose it in her nomination papers. A complaint was filed to this effect with the Returning Officer. According to the Supreme Court guidelines, candidates should disclose everything in their affidavits, but Natarajan deliberately hid the case, he explained. With this, the Election Returning Officer rejected Natarajan’s nomination last Tuesday. To this extent, the three BJP candidates were unanimous without going to the polls.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has announced the schedule for holding elections for 27 Rajya Sabha seats in 10 states on June 1. Elections are being held in Andhra Pradesh-4, Gujarat-4, Karnataka-4, Madhya Pradesh-3, Rajasthan-3, Jharkhand-2 seats each. The election process is ongoing in Manipur, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram for one seat each. On the other hand, elections are also being held for the vacancies created by the resignations of three members. (Maxim News)
