Hyderabad, June 11: The Future City Development Authority (FCDA) Office Building has become the first government building in Telangana to receive the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Net Zero Energy Certification by Design, marking a major milestone in the state’s push for sustainable and environmentally responsible infrastructure.
The certification was presented by C. Shekar Reddy to K. Shashanka during the inaugural ceremony held at Future City on June 10. Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy attended the event and hailed the achievement as a significant step toward building greener and more resilient cities.
The recognition highlights Telangana’s commitment to sustainable urban development and strengthens the state’s vision of creating future ready public infrastructure that reduces environmental impact while improving energy efficiency.
FCDA Building Sets New Benchmark for Green Infrastructure
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said Telangana is committed to developing cities that are sustainable, resilient and environmentally responsible. He noted that the FCDA building’s achievement demonstrates how government infrastructure can lead the adoption of green building practices.
The Chief Minister also urged government institutions, private developers, industries and citizens to embrace green building concepts and net zero energy principles to create a cleaner and healthier future.

The FCDA Office Building has been designed as a Net Zero Energy facility. The project will offset 100 percent of its annual energy consumption through a combination of onsite renewable energy generation and offsite green power procurement.
A key feature of the building is a 40 kWp rooftop solar photovoltaic system. The installation is expected to generate nearly 60,000 kilowatt hours of renewable energy every year. In addition, the remaining energy demand will be met through green energy procurement under Telangana’s Green Tariff policy.
The building also incorporates several energy efficient features. These include a high performance HVAC system, energy efficient lighting and a design that maximizes natural daylight. As a result, the facility significantly reduces dependence on artificial lighting and lowers overall energy consumption.
Future City Vision Focuses on Sustainability
FCDA Commissioner K. Shashanka said the certification reflects the authority’s commitment to developing Future City as a model for sustainable urban growth. He stated that innovative design, renewable energy integration and resource efficient planning have helped create infrastructure that is both environmentally responsible and future ready.
IGBC National Chairman C. Shekar Reddy described the project as a landmark achievement for Telangana. He said the FCDA Office Building sets a new benchmark for government infrastructure by adopting net zero energy principles at the design stage.
Furthermore, he noted that the project demonstrates how public buildings can lead India’s transition toward a low carbon and energy efficient future.
The certification reinforces Future City’s goal of creating a world class urban ecosystem driven by sustainability, innovation and resilience. It also positions Telangana as a leader in green building practices and sustainable public infrastructure development.
