Hyderabad, July 28 (Maxim News): The Government Railway Police (GRP), Secunderabad, and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) jointly busted an interstate ganja smuggling racket by arresting an alleged drug peddler at Charlapally Railway Station. Police seized 6.096 kg of dry ganja worth ₹3,04,800 from his possession.
A case has been registered under Crime No. 388/2026 under Section 8(c) read with 20(b)(ii)(B) of the NDPS Act, 1985.
The arrested accused was identified as Antaryani Mahananda (23), a native of Rourkela, Sundargarh district, Odisha, who worked as a painter.
According to the police, the accused allegedly decided to enter the ganja trade after learning that narcotics fetched higher prices in Hyderabad. He reportedly travelled to the Rayagada forest area in Odisha on July 26, purchased approximately 6 kg of ganja from an unidentified supplier for ₹5,000 per kg, and packed the contraband into two shoulder bags.
He then travelled from Kesinga Railway Station in the general coach of Train No. 20809 Nagavali Express and reached Charlapally Railway Station on July 27. Police said he was waiting for his cousin, who had asked him to come to Hyderabad for work, when the GRP and RPF teams intercepted and searched him during a surprise anti narcotics checking drive at the station.
The officers recovered 6.096 kg of dry ganja, leading to his arrest. Police are investigating the source of the contraband and whether the accused had links to a larger interstate drug trafficking network.
The operation was carried out by B. Saieashwar Goud, IRP, S.V. Subba Reddy, SIRP, personnel of the Railway Police Station, Secunderabad, and RPF officials led by Rakesh Meena, IPF, Charlapally, and B.N. Singh, IPF, CIB, Secunderabad.
Superintendent of Railway Police Y. Sai Shekhar, IPS, DSRP S.N. Jawed, and IGP Railway and Road Safety K. Ramesh Naidu, IPS, appreciated the efforts of the GRP and RPF personnel and announced that the officers involved in the operation would be suitably rewarded. (Maxim News)
