Internet, June 14: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said India continues on a path of economic growth despite tensions in West Asia and accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of repeatedly presenting a negative picture of the country’s economic situation.
Speaking at the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sammelan in Bengaluru, Sitharaman said India’s economic indicators remain strong and rejected claims that the country is facing an economic crisis.
She said Rahul Gandhi often predicts economic difficulties but added that the country’s growth data does not support such concerns.
The Finance Minister stated that India’s economy continues to expand and pointed to GDP figures and assessments by international institutions to support the government’s position.
Nirmala Sitharaman Highlights Welfare and Economic Growth
Sitharaman said the Central government has taken measures to maintain uninterrupted energy supplies despite uncertainty in West Asia.
She also highlighted welfare and development initiatives implemented during the BJP led government’s tenure under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to the minister, around 25 crore people have moved out of poverty during this period.
She said rural sanitation programmes resulted in the construction of 12 crore toilets across the country.
The Finance Minister added that India currently has 58 crore Jan Dhan accounts, 144 crore Aadhaar registrations and 125 crore mobile connections.
She also said that UPI has emerged as a major model for digital transactions.
