Three Indian Oil Tankers Cross Strait Of Hormuz With 8.6 lakh MT Cargo

Strait of Hormuz/Internet/Hyderabad, June 21 (Maxim News): Three Indian flagged crude oil tankers carrying more than 8.6 lakh metric tonnes of cargo have safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz and are now en route to Indian ports, offering a significant boost to India’s energy security amid recent disruptions in West Asian shipping routes.

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal announced that the vessels Desh Vaibhav, Desh Vibhor and Sanmar Herald had successfully transited the strategic waterway with 94 Indian crew members on board. He said the government was working with all relevant agencies to safeguard Indian seafarers and protect critical maritime supply routes.

The development comes at a time when India is closely monitoring cargo movement through the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for crude oil and gas supplies from the Gulf. The safe passage of the three tankers is expected to ease immediate concerns over disruption to energy imports and shipping operations.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical oil shipping lanes, linking Gulf producers to major energy consuming markets. For India, which depends heavily on imported crude oil to meet domestic energy demand, uninterrupted passage through the route is vital for supply stability, refinery operations and price management.

Government agencies have been coordinating closely on maritime security and the movement of Indian flagged vessels in sensitive waters. The latest transit is being seen as an important development for both India’s shipping sector and its broader energy security planning.
