Hyderabad, August 27: Mailardevpally Police have arrested a 40-year-old driver for allegedly transporting a large quantity of prohibited gutka in Hyderabad.
Police seized 50 bags of banned gutkha, an Eicher DCM vehicle and a mobile phone during the operation. The seized gutkha is estimated to be worth ₹7.5 lakh.
The case was registered under Cr. No. 724/2026 under Section 280 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 20(2) of the COTPA Act at Mailardevpally Police Station.
Gutka Consignment Seized at GMR Parking Area
According to police, they received credible information around 8 pm on August 26 about a DCM vehicle carrying prohibited gutkha parked at the GMR Parking Area in Mailardevpally.
Acting on the information, a police team reached the location and intercepted the Eicher DCM bearing registration number MH-10-DT-4563.
During the inspection, officers allegedly found 50 bags of prohibited gutkha, with each bag weighing approximately 50 kg.
The total consignment was valued at around ₹7.5 lakh, according to police.
The driver was identified as Anwar Mansur Sayyad, 40, a resident of Sangli district in Maharashtra. He was taken into custody at the spot.
Police seized the gutkha consignment, the DCM vehicle and one mobile phone. Further investigation is underway to determine the source of the prohibited tobacco products and their intended destination.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of S. Sreenivas, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Rajendranagar Zone, and A. Sudhakar, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Chandrayangutta Division.
The team was led by Ch. Srinivas, Inspector of Police and SHO, Mailardevpally Police Station, along with other police personnel.
Police are continuing their investigation into the alleged illegal transportation network.
