Strait of Hormuz/Internet/Hyderabad, june 25 (Maxim News): Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, which is crucial for global energy supply, have finally eased. With the successful diplomatic talks between the US and Iran, ship traffic in this sea route is returning to normal. This development has come as a big relief to our country. 30 ships from India have already safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz. Another 26 ships are waiting in the queue for passage. India’s Shipping Ministry has revealed this.
India relies mainly on this route for the supply of crude oil, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and agricultural fertilizers from the Persian Gulf region. With the latest developments, the threat to the country’s energy security seems to have been averted. Hundreds of ships were stranded in the Persian Gulf after Iran tightened its grip on the strait and blocked shipping due to recent regional conflicts. However, as per the US-Iran agreement, traffic is now gradually being restored. Of the 26 Indian ships still waiting, 3 ships are ready to sail with fuel loads, 10 ships with fertilizers and the remaining 13 ships with other essential goods.
Two large LNG tankers belonging to Abu Dhabi National Oil Company have already safely arrived and delivered gas to the Ennore in Tamil Nadu and Kochi in Kerala terminals. Experts believe that if transportation through the Strait of Hormuz runs smoothly, fuel prices in the country will stabilize and the shortage of fertilizers will be eliminated, which will benefit the agricultural sector. However, even after the war, due to challenges such as rising insurance costs and the removal of mines at sea, it is likely to take a few more weeks for transportation to return to normal.
The Indian government is currently conducting ‘Operation Urja Suraksha’ through its Navy, providing protection to Indian ships and continuously reviewing the situation. (Maxim News)
