Hyderabad ORR Gunfire: Police Shoot Most Wanted Criminal During Arrest Attempt

Hyderabad: A tense situation unfolded on Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road (ORR) on Tuesday after police opened fire while attempting to arrest a most wanted criminal near Bonguluru Gate. The accused, identified as Srikanth, was injured in the operation and taken into custody.

According to police, the Nalgonda Central Crime Station (CCS) team intercepted the accused near Exit No. 12 at Bonguluru Gate after tracking his movements. Srikanth allegedly attempted to flee and attacked police personnel with a knife during the arrest operation.

Police said they initially fired three rounds into the air in self defence to control the situation. When the accused continued his attack, officers fired at his legs to restrain him.

Srikanth sustained bullet injuries and was shifted to the Vanasthalipuram Area Hospital for treatment. A CCS head constable also suffered a serious head injury during the incident.

Police said Srikanth has more than 100 criminal cases registered against him in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, including murder, theft, robbery and other offences. He is also the second accused in the 2007 murder of a police constable in the erstwhile Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh.

Two other suspects travelling with Srikanth in a DCM vehicle were also arrested during the operation.

The gunfire on the busy ORR briefly created panic among motorists travelling through the area. Additional police personnel were deployed to secure the scene, and the situation was brought under control.

Senior police officials are supervising the investigation. Officers believe Srikanth’s arrest could help uncover details about several pending criminal cases, his associates and the activities of the gang operating across the two Telugu states.
