Warangal, July 4: Tension prevailed at the Bhadrakali Temple in Warangal on Saturday after police stopped Bharatiya Janata Party leaders and workers from entering the temple premises to carry out a purification ritual.

BJP leaders claimed the temple’s sanctity had been violated after leaders of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi and the Indian National Congress allegedly entered the temple with wet clothes following a bath. They said they intended to conduct a temple purification programme.

However, police prevented the BJP leaders and activists from entering the temple, citing law and order concerns. As a result, an argument broke out between BJP workers and police personnel, creating tension near the temple premises.

BJP leaders demanded permission to perform the purification ritual, stating that the temple’s sanctity had been affected. Meanwhile, police maintained that the restrictions were imposed purely as a precautionary measure to prevent any untoward incident.

The incident triggered discussions in and around the temple area, while police remained deployed to keep the situation under control.
