Heavy Rain Alert Issued for Telangana as Low-Pressure System Intensifies

Hyderabad, July 4 (Maxim News): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across several parts of Telangana over the next two days following the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. The weather system is expected to strengthen, bringing widespread showers, particularly to northern districts of the state.

The IMD has issued a heavy to very heavy rainfall alert for Adilabad, Nizamabad, Jagtial, and Peddapalli districts. Moderate to heavy rainfall is also likely in Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Nirmal, Mancherial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Bhupalpally, and Hanamkonda.

Light rainfall is expected in Rangareddy, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Nalgonda, Suryapet, and Khammam districts.

Authorities on Alert as El Niño Threatens Weak Monsoon

The Telangana government has directed GHMC and district administrations to remain on high alert and prepare for any emergencies arising from heavy rain. Residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas have been advised to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during intense rainfall.

While the current weather system is expected to improve rainfall in the coming days, IMD officials cautioned that strengthening El Niño conditions over the Pacific Ocean could weaken the overall southwest monsoon during July, August, and September.

According to IMD Hyderabad Director S. Stella, Telangana recorded nearly 15 percent below-normal rainfall by the end of June. Central Telangana has been particularly affected, with Warangal and Hanamkonda reporting rainfall deficits of nearly 60 to 70 percent.

Weather experts said the rainfall from the present low-pressure system may partially reduce the deficit, but the state could still receive below-normal rainfall during the remainder of the monsoon season.

The IMD has also advised farmers to plan agricultural activities carefully, keeping in view the possibility of lower-than-average rainfall in the coming months.
