Hyderabad, July 4: The Centre has raised the minimum support price of onion by 13 percent. The new rate now stands at Rs 2,125 per quintal.
The revised price takes effect immediately. The move aims to boost onion procurement and support farmers.
Onion procurement gets push
The government had fixed the earlier price at Rs 1,875 per quintal. It also raised onion prices several times this season.
According to reports, the government had procured only 2,000 tonnes by June 1. Earlier, it raised the price on May 22, June 13, and June 20.
The Agriculture Department estimates onion output at 307.33 lakh tonnes in 2025 26. It said procurement stood at 307.67 lakh tonnes in 2024 25.
