Hyderabad: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday said Telangana is set to emerge as a major hub for India’s high-speed rail network, stating that the State has been allocated three of the seven proposed bullet train corridors announced across the country.
Addressing a public event, Vaishnaw credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the proposed high-speed rail projects and said they would significantly improve connectivity between Hyderabad and several major cities.
Faster Travel Through High-Speed Rail
The Union Minister said the proposed bullet train network would drastically reduce travel time from Hyderabad to key destinations.
According to him, the estimated travel times would be:
- Hyderabad to Vijayawada: Approximately 1 hour 10 minutes
- Hyderabad to Mumbai: Approximately 2 hours 20 minutes
- Hyderabad to Chennai: Approximately 2 hours 20 minutes
He said the high-speed rail project would bring transformative changes to transportation, economic activity and regional connectivity.
Credits PM Modi for Railway Expansion
Vaishnaw said the proposed bullet train projects had been made possible under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He also alleged that some political leaders were attempting to claim credit for the initiative, asserting that the recognition should go to the Prime Minister.
Highlights Railway Budget Allocation
The Railway Minister further stated that the Union government had substantially increased railway funding for Telangana.
Comparing budget allocations, he claimed that:
- The UPA government allocated around ₹800 crore for the undivided Andhra Pradesh.
- The NDA government has allocated approximately ₹5,000 crore for Telangana’s railway development.
He said the increased investment reflects the Centre’s commitment to expanding railway infrastructure and improving connectivity across the State.
