Harish Rao Alleges Delay In Employees Health Scheme, Seeks Immediate Rollout

Hyderabad, July 15: BRS MLA and former Minister T. Harish Rao on Wednesday accused the Telangana government of delaying the implementation of the Employees Health Scheme (EHS) despite collecting contributions from government employees, teachers and pensioners.

He demanded that the government immediately operationalise the scheme, issue health cards to beneficiaries and refund the deductions collected until the scheme becomes functional.

In a statement, Harish Rao said the Congress government had initially promised to launch the Employees Health Scheme on June 2 and later revised the implementation date to July 15.

However, he alleged that the scheme has still not become operational as the government is yet to issue detailed guidelines and finalise agreements with empanelled hospitals.

He said deducting 1.5 percent from employees’ salaries and pensions before launching the scheme was unfair to beneficiaries.

The former Minister also accused the government of failing to fulfil several commitments made to government employees.

According to Harish Rao, the pending issues include:

  • Delay in implementing the Pay Revision Commission (PRC)
  • Release of six pending Dearness Allowances (DAs)
  • Abolition of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS)
  • Clearance of pension-related arrears

He said these promises were made in the Congress party’s Abhaya Hastham manifesto but remain unfulfilled.

Harish Rao claimed that the previous BRS government led by K. Chandrashekhar Rao implemented two Pay Revision Commissions, provided 73 percent fitment, enhanced pensions and introduced cashless medical treatment through wellness centres and empanelled hospitals.

He also stated that the previous government had proposed a stronger health scheme with a one percent employee contribution.

The BRS leader further alleged that the government had neglected other welfare measures, including the police security scheme and journalists’ health cards.

He warned that the BRS would launch an agitation if the government failed to implement its commitments to employees and pensioners.
