Hyderabad, July 17: Tension prevailed in Bollikunta village of Khila Warangal mandal on Friday after two groups opposed each other over the installation of a Chhatrapati Shivaji statue at a local junction.
The dispute arose as members of the local Dalit community objected to installing the Shivaji statue next to the existing Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue. The issue had been under discussion for the past few days.
According to officials, an unidentified group installed the Shivaji statue at the junction during the early hours of Friday. After the Dalit community demanded its removal, police and revenue officials removed the statue under heavy security.
The removal triggered protests from those supporting the installation. Police placed Warangal district BJP president Ghant Ravi and several other leaders from Bollikunta and Mamunoor under house arrest to prevent any law and order issues.
Meanwhile, the local tahsildar reviewed the situation at the village. Police maintained a strong presence while officials held discussions with representatives of both groups to restore normalcy.
