Hyderabad, July 24: The United Muslim Forum (UMF) has expressed support for the nationwide student and youth movement seeking reforms in India’s education system and strongly condemned the alleged police action against peaceful protesters at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
In a joint statement issued on Friday, senior leaders of the Forum, led by its President Maulana Mufti Syed Sadiq Mohiuddin Faheem, criticised the Centre’s education policies and alleged that recent developments had weakened the country’s education system.
The Forum alleged that repeated examination irregularities, including question paper leaks, had affected students across the country. It also claimed that changes in educational policies and the curriculum had undermined public confidence in the system.
The organisation condemned the alleged use of force by Delhi Police against protesters participating in the demonstration organised under the banner of the Cockroach Janta Party at Jantar Mantar. It described the action as an attack on the democratic right to peaceful protest.
Referring to the anti-CAA protests of 2020, the Forum urged citizens from all communities to remain vigilant and united in safeguarding constitutional values, justice and communal harmony.
The statement also appreciated residents of Delhi, including mosques and religious institutions, for providing food, water and shelter to protesters during the demonstrations.
The Forum appealed to people, particularly members of the Muslim community, to continue working peacefully for constitutional governance, justice and social harmony.
It also urged citizens in Telangana and other states to participate responsibly in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls being conducted by the Election Commission of India and complete the process within the prescribed timeline.
