Nirmal, July 30: Heavy rains continued across Nirmal district on Thursday, leading to a sharp rise in inflows into the Kadem Project. Irrigation officials opened six floodgates to release excess water downstream as a precautionary measure.
Authorities have urged residents in low lying and catchment areas to remain alert as rainfall continues in the upper reaches of the project.
The Kadem Project is receiving an inflow of 77,442 cusecs. To regulate water levels, officials have opened six floodgates by 10 feet and are releasing 67,000 cusecs of water into the downstream Godavari River.
The project’s full reservoir level is 700 feet, with a storage capacity of 3.495 TMC. On Thursday, the water level stood at 693.725 feet, with a current storage of 2.212 TMC.
Project Executive Engineer Praveen Kumar advised people living in the Kadem Project catchment area to remain vigilant and avoid entering flood affected areas.
Officials also appealed to residents to venture outdoors only when necessary, as heavy rainfall in the upstream regions is expected to keep inflows high over the coming hours.
The irrigation department is continuously monitoring the reservoir and downstream conditions to ensure safe water management during the ongoing spell of heavy rains.
