Hyderabad, August 3: The Dr. K. V. Rao Scientific Society (KVRSS) celebrated its 26th Annual Day at the School of Life Sciences Auditorium, University of Hyderabad, recognising outstanding achievements in science, innovation and creativity among students from across the country.
The event was attended by Prof. J. Anuradha, Vice Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad, as the chief guest. Organisers said the programme highlighted KVRSS’s continued efforts to promote scientific inquiry and nurture young talent through research, innovation and STEM education.
Founded in 2001 in memory of Dr. K. V. Rao, a distinguished scientist of the Geological Survey of India, the Hyderabad-based non-profit organisation has spent the past 26 years encouraging scientific temper among school, college and university students.
A major attraction of the event was “Math Meets Movement,” an innovative dance performance by P. B. Vaishnavi, Assistant Professor of Dance at GITAM Hyderabad, along with her team.
The presentation creatively demonstrated the relationship between mathematics and movement, showcasing how performing arts can effectively communicate scientific and mathematical concepts to wider audiences.
KVRSS honoured students for outstanding achievements during the 2025–26 academic year through its flagship award programmes.
The 26th Annual Research Awards recognised excellence in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics, with 12 awards presented to young researchers under the age of 30. The competition received 167 applications from more than 100 institutions across several states.
Under the 15th SPARK Innovation Awards, which encourage scientific innovation among school students, more than 200 project entries were received. After the final round held in Hyderabad, eight awards were presented across four scientific disciplines.
The 6th SMART (Science Meets ART) Awards challenged students to design educational board games based on scientific and mathematical concepts. The competition attracted over 250 entries, with three winners receiving honours.
KVRSS also highlighted the impact of its Science Innovation Centre and Mobile Science Lab, launched during 2021–22. Together, the two initiatives have reached more than 23,000 students over the past four years by bringing hands-on science education directly to schools.
The Society said it remains committed to fostering curiosity, innovation and scientific excellence while expanding access to quality STEM education across India.
