Hyderabad, August 3: A Hyderabad court has sentenced a 38-year-old labourer to rigorous life imprisonment and imposed a ₹10,000 fine for the murder of an unidentified man in Bandlaguda in 2023.
Court Convicts Accused Under Section 302 IPC
The judgment was delivered on Monday by the 4th Additional Sessions Judge, Nampally, J. Vikram, in SCPC No. 443/2023, arising out of Crime No. 52/2023 registered at Bandlaguda Police Station (formerly Chandrayangutta Police Station).
The court convicted Vemula Raju (38), a labourer and resident of Jalpally, Balapur, under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Apart from rigorous life imprisonment, the court imposed a ₹10,000 fine. In default of payment, the convict will have to undergo six months of simple imprisonment.
Victim Found Dead Near Electricity Office
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on the night of January 18, 2023, when a police patrol received information about a man being attacked with a boulder near the Electricity Office at Mumtaz Bagh.
Police personnel rushed to the spot and found the victim lying in a pool of blood with severe head injuries. A 108 ambulance was called, but medical staff declared the victim dead at the scene.
The body was shifted to the Osmania General Hospital mortuary for postmortem and legal formalities before a murder case was registered.
Investigation Led to Conviction
The case was registered by Sub-Inspector G. Anjaneyulu.
The investigation was initially conducted by Inspector A. Madhusudhan Reddy, while the charge sheet was later filed by Inspector K.N. Prasad Varma.
The prosecution was represented by Additional Public Prosecutor K. Srivani, assisted by legal counsel Suresh Kumar Sharma.
Police said the conviction was secured through effective coordination between the investigating officers, prosecution team and court duty staff, including Court Duty Officer A. Anjaneyulu and Process Duty Officer Ch. Shashidhar.
Inspector R. Devender, Station House Officer of Bandlaguda Police Station, commended the investigation and prosecution teams for securing the conviction.
