Lucknow, August 9: BJP MLA Gyan Tiwari has alleged that his daughter was duped into marrying a man who had allegedly married 25 women using fake identities.
The Sevata MLA in Uttar Pradesh said police have registered a cheating case against the accused and his father. Police have also arrested both men, according to the complaint.
Tiwari said his daughter Pragya married Prakhar Trivedi in 2024. He identified Prakhar as the son of Anuj Trivedi from Chandrawal in Mishrikh.
According to the MLA, Anuj presented himself as a prominent real estate businessman from Mumbai before the marriage.
Tiwari alleged that the family concealed information about previous cases and criminal allegations.
The MLA said he later learned about the family’s activities through social media and other sources. He claimed that Prakhar had used different identities to approach women in several states.
Tiwari further alleged that Prakhar married about 25 women and cheated them of large sums of money. These allegations have not been independently established.
The MLA said he has ended all social and personal ties with the Trivedi family. He also said he brought his daughter back to his home after learning about the alleged activities.
Police register case after BJP MLA complaint
The incident has caused distress to the MLA’s family, Tiwari said. He also claimed that the alleged fraud affected his reputation as a public representative.
Tiwari demanded strict punishment for those found responsible. He said the accused should face punishment under the law if a court establishes their guilt.
Meanwhile, Reusa police confirmed that they registered a cheating case based on Tiwari’s complaint. The case names Anuj Trivedi and Prakhar Trivedi as accused.
Police said both accused have been arrested and legal proceedings are underway. Investigators are expected to examine the allegations, previous cases and the identities allegedly used during the marriages.
The police investigation will also determine whether other women were allegedly targeted and whether financial fraud occurred.
The case has drawn attention because of the unusually high number of alleged marriages cited in the complaint. However, the allegations remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings.
