Internet/Hyderabad, Aug 16 (Maxim News): A political controversy has erupted in Kerala over the non-singing of Vande Mataram at an official government function on Independence Day. The BJP has strongly condemned the Kerala government’s decision. The BJP has accused the Kerala government of succumbing to pressure from anti-national and extremist forces. The party has announced that it will fight this issue legally and politically.
Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan unfurled the national flag during the Independence Day celebrations held in Thiruvananthapuram on August 15. However, Vande Mataram was not sung during the event. At the same time, the guidelines issued by the Kerala Education Department had suggested that schools should sing the national anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’ on Independence Day. However, singing Vande Mataram was not made mandatory. This decision led to a political controversy.
BJP leader Shon George has made serious allegations against the Kerala government (BJP Kerala). He accused Chief Minister Satheesan’s leadership of maintaining direct and indirect links with Jamaat-e-Islami and anti-national forces for the past year. He said that not singing Vande Mataram was a deliberate decision and that the government had bowed to the demands of extremist forces.
