Internet/Hyderabad, Aug 21 (Maxim News): Former chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) S. Somnath was on Thursday appointed as a part-time, non-official director on the central board of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Somnath, who retired from ISRO in January 2025, will continue in this position for a period of four years with effect from August 20, 2026, an official statement said. The aerospace engineer, who served in various capacities in the space programme, was appointed as the chancellor of Chanakya University, a liberal arts university near Bengaluru, after retiring from ISRO. Meanwhile, billionaire Anand Mahindra has also been reappointed as a part-time, non-official director on the central board for another four years, the RBI said in another statement.
Apart from them, other members of the central board include Revathi Iyer, who retired from the Indian Audit & Accounts Service and later served as Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General of Government Accounts, and Sachin Chaturvedi, Director General of Research and Information System (RIS), a think tank for developing countries. Governor Sanjay Malhotra, Deputy Governors Swaminathan J, Poonam Gupta, S.C. Murmu, Rohit Jain, Economic Affairs Secretary Anuradha Thakur, and Financial Services Secretary Sanjay Lohia are also on the central board.(Maxim News)
