Hyderabad, Sept. 9 (Maxim News): AIMIM Karwan MLA Kausar Mohiuddin led a mosquito control drive at Shah Hatim Lake in Toli Chowki on Wednesday morning.
The drive focused on reducing mosquito breeding and protecting residents from mosquito borne diseases. GHMC officials joined the MLA during the field visit.
The team released 29,000 Gambusia fish into the lake. The fish feed on mosquito larvae and can help control breeding in stagnant water.
Officials also deployed oil balls in vulnerable areas around the lake. These measures target mosquito breeding spots and aim to reduce larval growth.
Furthermore, the GHMC used drones to spray Diflubenzuron larvicide across mosquito breeding sites. The drone operation helped officials cover areas that require wider treatment.
The programme took place in the presence of the GHMC Chief Entomologist and Assistant Medical Officer of Health. Other GHMC officials also participated in the inspection and control measures.
AIMIM Pushes Ground Action Against Mosquito Menace
The field operation followed concerns over mosquito breeding in the Toli Chowki area. Shah Hatim Lake remains a key location for mosquito control efforts because stagnant water can support breeding.
Gambusia fish offer a biological method of controlling mosquito larvae. Meanwhile, larvicides provide another method for treating breeding areas.
The use of drones also allows officials to reach larger or difficult locations. Together, these measures form a focused approach to mosquito control at the lake.
AIMIM said the programme reflected its effort to move from raising civic issues to securing action on the ground. The party said it remains committed to addressing the mosquito menace and protecting residents.
The drive also highlights the role of local civic coordination in controlling mosquito populations. Regular inspections and timely treatment can help limit breeding in vulnerable areas.
GHMC officials will continue mosquito control measures based on local requirements and identified breeding points. The latest operation brought together elected representatives and civic health officials for a coordinated response.
