New Delhi, Sept. 12: Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in New Delhi on Saturday to attend the 18th BRICS Summit.
The visit marks Xi’s first trip to India in nearly seven years.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Xi Jinping are scheduled to hold bilateral talks on the sidelines of the summit.
Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong said senior Chinese officials are accompanying Xi.
The delegation includes Cai Qi and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Xi Jinping, PM Modi Set for Bilateral Talks
Xi’s visit comes as India and China work to stabilise bilateral relations after the 2020 Galwan clashes.
India has stressed that peace and stability along the border remain important for bilateral ties.
Modi and Xi recently held a brief interaction during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek.
Their upcoming meeting is expected to cover bilateral relations and broader areas of cooperation.
Xu Feihong said China and India are making arrangements for the bilateral meeting.
He said both sides should strengthen communication, expand cooperation and properly manage differences.
The envoy also said the two countries should approach their relations from a long term strategic perspective.
Xi’s participation in the BRICS Summit is expected to provide an opportunity for wider discussions on India China relations.
The BRICS Summit will bring together leaders from member and partner countries.
The leaders are expected to discuss cooperation within the grouping and global and regional issues.
