Hyderabad, Sept 19 (Maxim News): Resident doctors at the Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) called off their strike on Saturday morning after the hospital management assured them of enhanced security measures.
Outpatient department (OPD) and elective medical services resumed normal operations following negotiations between the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) and the NIMS administration.
The strike was launched after a junior resident was allegedly verbally abused and threatened by relatives of a patient. The incident prompted resident doctors to demand stronger security arrangements at the hospital.
NIMS to Strengthen Security After Resident Doctors’ Strike
Following discussions with the RDA, NIMS management agreed to strengthen security infrastructure and response mechanisms. The hospital has also registered FIRs in connection with similar incidents reported on August 31 and September 16, 2026.
A dedicated Security and Safety Committee has been formed to review existing protocols, prevent incidents of violence and improve emergency response procedures.
The management has agreed to deploy Quick Response Teams (QRTs), additional security personnel and police outposts. It will also strengthen CCTV surveillance and install panic buttons at appropriate locations.
The RDA submitted specific amendments seeking clear implementation deadlines, defined response times for violent incidents and the formation of Violence/Incident Review and Counselling Committees.
The association thanked the NIMS Director and management for their response. It said the strike was called off in the interest of patient care, while the RDA would continue monitoring the implementation of the promised security measures.
