Hyderabad, Sept. 20 (Maxim News) : A 40-year-old man was rescued by the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) after he became trapped between a lift and the wall of a three-storey building in Moosapet’s Anjaneya Nagar on Sunday.
The man, identified as Murali, became trapped after the old grilled lift suddenly moved upwards while he was stepping out on the second floor.
According to HYDRAA officials, the lift’s sensors were not functioning properly. Murali had travelled with his wife from the ground floor to the second floor. As he tried to step out, another person reportedly pressed the lift button on the third floor.
The lift moved upwards within seconds, leaving one of Murali’s legs inside the lift and the other on the second-floor landing. His leg became trapped in the lift grille, leaving him hanging between the lift and the building wall.
His wife, who was still inside the lift, raised an alarm. Residents tried to rescue him but could not free him and subsequently contacted the HYDRA control room.
HYDRAA Rescue Operation Lasts Nearly 90 Minutes
HYDRAA received the emergency call at around 9:15 am. A Disaster Response Force team from Kukatpally reached the building by about 9:30 am under the leadership of HYDRA Marshal JDV Prasad.
The rescue team found Murali trapped between the second and third floors. Officials said they had to break open part of the lift wall to free him.
Personnel from the Sanath Nagar Fire Station also joined the operation. A hydraulic cutter was used to assist the rescue, according to HYDRA officials.
After nearly 90 minutes of rescue efforts, the team safely brought Murali out at around 10:50 am. He was then shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
His leg had suffered a fracture after getting compressed between the lift and the wall.
HYDRAA officials said the coordinated operation involved DRF members Marshal JDV Prasad, Errasani Anil Kumar, Jamma Ramesh, Veetha Ramesh and PallikamitI Gopi, along with police constable Naresh and Sanath Nagar Fire Station personnel.
The incident highlights the risks associated with malfunctioning lift safety systems, particularly in older buildings. HYDRAA’s Disaster Response Force is tasked with emergency rescue and response operations across the Hyderabad Core Urban Region. (Maxim News)
