Delhi, Sept. 23: Aadhaar biometric authentication will be mandatory from October 1 for consumers seeking subsidised domestic LPG refills at regulated prices.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has announced the requirement as part of the subsidy verification process.
Consumers who have already completed biometric Aadhaar authentication do not need to repeat the process.
According to the latest figures, 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers, or 89.9 percent, had completed the authentication by September 19.
Aadhaar Authentication Required for Subsidised LPG Refills
The government has said consumers who do not complete the authentication will not be denied LPG altogether.
However, they will not receive the subsidy and will have to purchase refills at the applicable market price.
The authentication is intended to ensure that LPG subsidies reach eligible beneficiaries. The government also aims to identify duplicate or ineligible connections and prevent diversion of subsidised domestic cylinders.
Consumers can complete the process through oil marketing company channels, LPG distributors and other available digital options.
The requirement follows earlier Aadhaar authentication measures for LPG consumers. The current rule sets October 1, 2026, as the deadline for biometric authentication to receive subsidised refills.
