The School Education Department has limited external evaluation to Class IX students across all 33 districts and Class VI students in nine districts.
Telangana Limits External Evaluation After Teachers’ Protests
The revised system covers Class VI students in Adilabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mulugu, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mahabubabad, Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal and Sangareddy districts.
Earlier, the government had introduced external evaluation for all classes. However, it has now directed schools to conduct SA examinations at the school level.
Under the revised process, headmasters must send answer scripts to mandal resource centres on the same day. Mandal education officers will appoint evaluators to assess the papers.
They must also ensure that evaluators complete the process and upload marks online within three to five days.
Meanwhile, several teachers’ associations opposed the earlier assessment system. They described it as an ill-considered move and argued that it violated the Right to Education Act. They demanded the complete withdrawal of external evaluation.
The government revised its decision after representatives of several teachers’ associations met Education Department Secretary Dr Yogita Rana and School Education Department Director Dr E Naveen Nicholas.
Representatives of PRTU-TS, TPUS, STU-TS, TRTF, TS UTF and STF submitted representations opposing the system.
During the meeting, teachers’ associations also raised concerns about pending teacher transfers. The Education Department Secretary assured them that the transfer schedule would be released after the Class X examinations.
The meeting was attended by Pulgam Damodar Reddy of PRTU-TS, Vodnala Rajashekhar of TPUS, G Sadananda Goud and J Gajender of STU-TS, Katakam Ramesh of TRTF, Venkat of TS UTF and Pochaiah of STF, among others.
