Khammam, Oct. 1: District Task Force (DTF) and excise teams seized 372.2 kg of ganja and arrested four alleged smugglers in three cases in the erstwhile Khammam district on Wednesday.
The teams seized the contraband during vehicle checks and subsequent interceptions in Bhadrachalam and Khammam. The seized ganja was valued at more than Rs 1.82 crore.
Ganja Seized in Three Cases in Khammam
In the first case, the DTF team seized 9 kg of ganja from a motorcycle rider during vehicle checks in Bhadrachalam, Kothagudem district.
Meanwhile, excise personnel grew suspicious of a car following the motorcycle. They searched the vehicle and recovered another 100 kg of ganja.
During questioning, the two accused revealed that smugglers were also transporting ganja in a lorry through Khammam. Acting on the information, excise teams intercepted the lorry at Karunagiri and seized 263.2 kg of ganja.
Police arrested four people in connection with the three cases. They identified the accused as Diwakar Mandal, the motorcycle rider; Suman Pal, the car driver; Rajasekhar Margi, the lorry driver; and Brijan Nasa, the lorry cleaner. All four are from Odisha.
The operation involved Kothagudem DTF Circle Inspector Ramadevi, Circle Inspectors Kistaiah and Narendar Reddy, and Sub-Inspectors Salimullah Khan and Sridhar Rao.
Excise Enforcement Director Avinash Mohanty, Joint Commissioner Anjan Rao and Khammam Deputy Commissioner V Somi Reddy commended the teams for the seizure.
