Telangana Drought: Kavitha Slams Revanth Reddy Govt

Hyderabad, Oct. 4 (Maxim News): Telangana Rakshana Sena chief Kalvakuntla Kavitha accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and his government of failing to tackle the drought in the state. She demanded 24-hour free power for farmers until November and an immediate declaration of drought-hit mandals.

Addressing a press conference in Banjara Hills, Kavitha said deficient rain had pushed the state into a severe drought. Groundwater has dropped to 20 metres in some places, she said, and crops are withering.

She cited rainfall figures for the past three months. According to her, the state received 1% less rain than normal in July, 38% less in August and 30% less in September. She alleged the government held no review meetings despite warnings of a “super El Nino”.

Kavitha also criticised the chief minister for performing a Varuna Yagam at Nagarjuna Sagar. In her words, he had left people to the mercy of God.

She said the government must give farmers free power for round-the-clock supply, as villages are not getting even six to seven hours of electricity. She also alleged that unpaid Singareni dues have caused a power shortage, which is pushing up prices of essentials and vegetables.

Kavitha pointed out that Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh have already declared drought mandals to seek Central aid. Telangana has not, she said, and she urged the government to convene a special Cabinet meeting at once. She also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide free power and financial assistance to the southern states.

Kavitha warns of drinking water crisis amid Telangana drought

Kavitha warned that Telangana could face a severe drinking water shortage in the coming days, with reservoirs reaching dead storage. She accused the government of failing to protect Krishna waters and alleged that the chief minister was ignoring the diversion of water from Mahabubnagar to Kuppam. She also criticised the maintenance of the Narlapur reservoir and the Kalwakurthy project.

On health, she said party teams are inspecting hospitals under “Operation Blue Code”. Kavitha claimed that the government released Rs 11 crore only after her party raised the ceiling collapse at the Bhupalpally hospital and the RIMS incidents. She objected to police threatening party workers who highlighted these issues.

She also alleged that the government has ignored teachers and police personnel affected by GO 317 for three years. She called the lathicharge on teachers on Gandhi Jayanti proof of the Congress government’s attitude. Her party will form a separate team to check basic facilities in schools, she announced.

Kavitha demanded that EVMs be scrapped and elections held by paper ballot, as in the United States and Britain, and said her party would take the fight to Delhi. She said the CEC’s resignation over SIR errors would be only a temporary fix. Her party is ready to contest the Khairatabad bypoll and any other election, she added. (Maxim News)
