Hyderabad, Oct. 4 (Maxim News): Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president YS Sharmila demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gnanesh Kumar, raising the Vote Chori issue at a press conference in Chennai on Sunday. She made the demand on behalf of the Congress party.
Sharmila expressed deep concern over recent developments in the country. She urged all people of Tamil Nadu to raise their voice on the issue.
She said the right to vote is sacred for every citizen, including the poorest in society. It is a personal right of each individual, she added, and it has helped India stand as a great democracy.
Sharmila then turned her attack on the Election Commission of India (ECI). She alleged that the ECI is functioning under the influence and control of a few people. She also accused the commission of issuing 14 key orders without the consensus of all commissioners, calling it a sign of authoritarian conduct.
Congress urges citizens to protest over Vote Chori
Sharmila said the Congress party wants all citizens to unite and protest to protect constitutional values and democratic rights.
She also said the party would continue its fight for the rights of the people, following the path of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. According to her, leaders working with dedication to strengthen the party are driving it forward, and the struggle will continue in future. (Maxim News)
