Hyderabad, Oct. 23: BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) has blamed the Congress government for the drought situation in Telangana. He accused the state government of failing to manage water resources and respond to advance warnings about El Niño.
KTR made the allegations in a post on X, claiming that the drought was caused by the government’s decisions rather than natural conditions. He also criticised the handling of Godavari and Krishna river waters.
According to KTR, the government released 750 TMC of Godavari water and 250 TMC of Krishna water downstream between June 1, 2026, and October 23, 2026.
KTR Criticises Congress Over Water Management
KTR alleged that the government failed to use the Kannepalli and Devadula pumping systems effectively to fill reservoirs and ponds in the Godavari basin.
He also accused the government of wasting Krishna water by not operating the Palamuru-Rangareddy and Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation (KLI) pumping systems properly.
The BRS leader further claimed that weather experts had been warning about the possibility of El Niño since March 2026. He alleged that the Congress government failed to take those warnings seriously.
KTR’s remarks have intensified the political debate over drought conditions, irrigation management and water availability in Telangana.
The allegations were made by the BRS leader. The claims regarding water releases and the government’s handling of irrigation projects were not independently verified in the source report.
