Hyderabad Christian Community Seeks Graveyard For Corona Victims

Hyderabad: Members of Christian community met with Minister for Scheduled Castes Development, Minority Welfare, Disabled and Senior Citizens Welfare Koppula Eshwar on Thursday and urged him to allocate a graveyard for Covid-19 victims as there is no place to bury the dead with respect.

The issue of allocating regular graveyards for the Christian community has already been discussed and the community was assured by the government.

They requested the Minister to appoint a committee with members from all denominations and agreed for the ratio of 30 per cent to Catholics and 70 per cent to the Protestant community in the committee. The Christian community also expressed the need for representation of the community in the government. They thanked the Minister for putting lot of effort in getting the graveyards allocated, they also thanked the Chief Minister for his support to the community.

The community leaders urged the Minister to implement the provisions under registration of Christian marriages as per the Christian Marriage act 1872 which allows every Episcopal Church priest to attest the said document. Only Hyderabad and Rangareddy Districts are following the Act, they told the Minister. The Minister positively responded to the requests made by the Christian Community Members and also asked them to submit a written representation on all the issues to take necessary action.
