Harish Rao slams Centre for discriminating TS

Hyderabad, March 14 (Maxim News): Finance & Health Minister T. Harish Rao today came down heavily against the Union government and alleged that the Centre had shown discrimination against Telangana State. He also alleged that the Centre had not even given a single medical college to the State despite sanctioning 157 medical colleges to different States in the country. He also alleged that the Central government, which sanctioned Rs 200 crore to all the medical colleges set up by it, did not give a single penny to the State.

Replying to questions raised by the members in the Assembly during question hour, Harish Rao said they had increased the number of the government medical Colleges to 33 from three medical colleges before the formation of the State. He said the Telangana students, who went to Ukraine to pursue medical education faced a lot of problems and alleged that the negligence of the rulers of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh State was the main reason for the travails of the students, who are facing a lot of problems by going to countries like China and Ukraine. He said the students of Telangana State could now pursue their medical education in Telangana due to the decision of the Chief Minister KCR to establish a medical college in every district in the State.

The Health Minister said they set up Basthi hospitals to cater to the needs of the residents of the GHMC. He said they had set up a total of 259 basthi hospitals so far and added that they would open another 91 basthi hospitals in the corporation limits . Rao said that they were offering OPD, tele-consultation, basic lab diagnostics tests, Immunization and free medicines at the basthi hospitals. He also said they were offering pre-maternity and post-maternity care services, family planning counselling and anemia tests, BP and sugar tests at the hospitals.

He said they were taking steps for the establishment of similar hospitals at all major cities in the State. He said the basthi hospitals were inaugurated by the Chief Minister to provide efficient healthcare services in the cities. He also said the 15th Finance Commission appreciated their initiative of the hospitals while terming it a matter of pride for the entire State. He said the hospitals helped the poor in the cities. He also said they served 81 lakh people through the basthi hospitals and added that they were offering super speciality healthcare services through their tele-medicine. He also said they were spending ₹75,000 on each basthi hospital every month. (Maxim News)
