Etala demands govt to release arrears to SHGs

Hyderabad, June 5 (Maxim News): BJP MLA Etala Rajender today told the State government not to hit or dilute the women Self Help Groups (SHGs) of the State. He demanded that the State government immediately release arrears it owned to the SHGs. Referring to the claims of the State government that it is rich government, Etala said it would be not proper for the State government to not release the arrears of the SHGs.

Speaking to media persons, Etala said the women SHGs play an important role in the rural areas and added that no work was possible in the rural areas unless it has the support of the women. He told the State government that the conditions of 18,000 VOLs are very poor. He said while the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh government was giving ₹10,000 as salary to the VOLs, the Telangana government was giving only ₹3,900 as salary. He made it clear that the SHGs were formed to achieve women empowerment.

Stating that some of the districts like Karimnagar, Mahbubnagar, Warangal and Adilabad were backward, he said the Central government used to pay 7 percent interest on a principal amount of ₹3 lakh to the SHGs, the State government used to pay the remaining amount of interest. He demanded that the State government pay the interest amount to the other districts and added that the State government owed ₹3000 crore towards the payment of the interest to the SHGs.

Claiming that the Union government was generous towards the SHGs, Etala said new GO issued by the Union government for the benefit of the SHGs was not yet implemented while noting that the Central government has given the opportunity of availing ₹20 lakh loan for those SHGs, which don’t have any problems. He also said the Centre had increased the loan amount from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh.

He alleged that the State government had not yet released revolving fund to the newly constituted 64,000 SHGs. He said the credit behind giving a revolving fund of ₹15,000 each to the newly formed SHGs went to the Union government. He also criticised that the State government would talk about the SHGs whenever there is an election in the State. (Maxim News)
